Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace with a pendant drop, as sculpted by Raphael Maklouf. The effigy is rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair curls and fabric folds on the draped truncation. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left rim and ISLE OF MAN · 1999 along the right rim, both in raised Latin characters. The field is mirror-polished, consistent with proof coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the 1923 marriage of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon to the Duke of York — the future George VI — this crown commemorates a honeymoon spent partly at Polesden Lacey, a Regency house in Surrey lent to the couple by Mrs. Ronald Greville. The Queen Mother lived to 101, making her one of the longest-lived British monarchs or consorts in recorded history; by 1999, she had outlived her husband by nearly half a century.

The Isle of Man has issued commemorative crowns prolifically since the 1970s under Pobjoy Mint contracts, and this piece belongs to a series marking milestones in the Queen Mother's life released around her centenary.
