| Obverse description | Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem, drop earrings, and a pearl necklace, after the third portrait by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left field, GIBRALTAR along the upper right, and the date 1997 below to the right, all within a fine beaded border. The portrait is rendered in high relief with a frosted cameo finish against a mirror-polished field, characteristic of proof coinage. The engraver's initials RDM appear below the truncation. |
