Gibraltar's 1997 coinage program leaned heavily into its geographic identity — the territory sits at the mouth of the Mediterranean where ancient cartographers placed the boundary of the known world. The bimetallic format here is deliberate: the gold centre reads as the rock itself, the silver ring as surrounding sea.
Only one gram of the gold is .999 fine, making this more a novelty bimetallic than a bullion piece — the silver ring carries most of the mass.
