Gibraltar has issued commemorative crowns in enormous quantities since the 1970s, contracting with the Pobjoy Mint and others to produce themed collector pieces that rarely see genuine circulation. The Spitfire was a natural subject — Gibraltar's wartime role as a staging and repair base for RAF aircraft made it a legitimate, if loosely interpreted, connection to the type.
KM#1350 is one of several Spitfire-themed issues Gibraltar produced across multiple years and metal variants. Collector demand for the series has always been modest; secondary market prices consistently hover near melt or face value for the copper-nickel strikes.
