Additional information

The name Ben My Chree — Manx for "girl of my heart" — has been carried by a succession of Isle of Man Steam Packet vessels since 1845. The sixth ship of that name entered service in 1998 as one of the largest and fastest ro-ro ferries operating in the Irish Sea, capable of carrying over 500 passengers and 375 vehicles on the Douglas–Heysham route. The Steam Packet Company itself, founded in 1830, is among the oldest surviving passenger shipping companies in the world.
