Gibraltar's Crown series has long served as a vehicle for commemorative issues with broad collector appeal rather than genuine circulation intent. The St. George and Dragon type recycles one of the most reproduced designs in British numismatic history — Benedetto Pistrucci's composition, originally cut for the 1817 British sovereign, has appeared on so many Commonwealth and associated territory issues that attribution requires careful attention to the issuing authority's specific die contracts.
