Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory with a permanent population of under 300 and no resident mint authority, issues commemorative coinage almost entirely for the collector market through licensing arrangements with private minting companies. This piece marks two centuries of British sovereign rule over the island, which was formally annexed in 1816 — primarily to prevent its use as a staging point for any attempt to rescue Napoleon from Saint Helena, 2,700 kilometres to the north.
