The Snowman franchise has been a consistent revenue source for the Isle of Man treasury since the early 1980s, when Raymond Briggs licensed the character for what became one of the most commercially productive coin programs in Pobjoy Mint's history. The 2014 issue adds the Snowdog, introduced in the animated sequel The Snowman and the Snowdog broadcast on Channel 4 in December 2012 — the first continuation of the original story in three decades.
