Gibraltar has issued commemorative crowns under royal warrant since the 1970s, and Churchill has appeared on dozens of such pieces from various Commonwealth territories — making individual issues largely interchangeable from a historical standpoint. This gold-plated bronze variant of the 2015 issue is a collector convenience piece rather than a coinage event of any numismatic consequence. Churchill died in January 1965; the fiftieth anniversary drove a wave of nearly identical commemoratives across multiple jurisdictions that year.
