Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents a three-quarter portrait of Sir Francis Drake, depicted in Elizabethan dress complete with a ruffled lace collar, set against a gold-plated field. To the right of the figure, a period sailing galleon is shown underway on stylized waves, evoking Drake's celebrated naval career. At lower left, a colored enamel cartouche displays the Union Flag accompanied by the inscription GREAT BRITISH HEROES. The arc legend SIR FRANCIS DRAKE runs along the upper periphery, with the subsidiary inscription Hero of the Spanish Armada appearing in the upper field, and ONE CROWN arcing along the lower border.

Aanvullende informatie

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population under 300, issues commemorative coinage primarily as a revenue mechanism — the island has no meaningful retail coin circulation. This Drake crown is part of a broader series of British-themed commemoratives produced under license, physically minted off-island and sold directly to collectors.

Drake's connection to the South Atlantic is genuine: his 1577–1580 circumnavigation took him through the region during the Golden Hinde's passage around Cape Horn.
