| Aanvullende informatie |
Drake's circumnavigation of 1577–1580 made him the first captain to complete the voyage himself — Magellan died en route — and Gibraltar featured prominently in his return, as the strait marked his passage back into familiar Atlantic waters. The 2009 issue is one of several Gibraltar crowns in a sprawling commemorative program that has used the Crown format extensively since the 1990s to mark British historical and naval themes, with production handled by the Pobjoy Mint.
