Gibraltar's Crown series has long served as a vehicle for commemorative issues aimed squarely at the collector market, with the "Silhouettes" release continuing that tradition. The fourth portrait of Elizabeth II — the Maklouf effigy introduced in 1985 — was already being phased out across Commonwealth issues by the time this piece was struck, making its appearance here a quiet anachronism in the final years of her reign.
