| Obverse description | Right-facing uncrowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, rendered in high relief, wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara. The portrait, attributed to the Ian Rank-Broadley style used for Pobjoy Mint issues, is shown as a truncated bust with fine drapery detail. The legend ELIZABETH II ISLE OF MAN arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 2006 and the engraver's initials IRB positioned in the lower field. |

The Isle of Man cat crown series, running continuously since 1988, became one of the more commercially successful thematic programs from the Pobjoy Mint, which struck the majority of issues under license from the Manx treasury. Each annual release features a different breed, and the 2006 assignment to the Shorthair reflects the series' deliberate rotation through pedigree and working breeds alike. Pobjoy's contract gave them unusual latitude over design selection, which is why the series reads more like a breeder's catalog than a national coinage program.
