| Reverse description | Full frontal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II vested in the ceremonial robes of the Order of the Garter, including the mantle and insignia, depicted in rich detail. The figure is shown from approximately waist height, with the elaborate blue velvet robes and Garter star rendered in high relief. | Additional information |
Gibraltar's commemorative crown program of the late 1990s and early 2000s was prolific to the point of exhaustion — the territory issued dozens of themed pieces annually, many sharing the same Pobjoy Mint planchets and differing only in the reverse die. This piece marks Elizabeth II's 75th birthday, celebrated in April 2001.
As a British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar's currency has no independent monetary function; sterling circulates in practice, and these crowns existed primarily for the collector market from the moment of striking.
