Reverse description Conjoined busts of Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon and the Duke of York (later King George VI) facing slightly toward one another in a formal engagement portrait, depicted in contemporary dress of the early 1920s. The lady wears a pearl necklace and the gentleman is attired in a lounge suit. The arc legend THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE QUEEN MOTHER curves along the upper field, while a tablet below the busts bears the inscription ROYAL ENGAGEMENT 1923. The denomination 1 CROWN appears in the lower exergue, with decorative foliate ornaments flanking the central tablet.
