Additional information

Mona's Queen II was a steam packet vessel operated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, and the 1982 crown series commemorating the company's ships was issued during a period when the Isle of Man was aggressively expanding its proof coinage program — largely targeting collector markets rather than circulation. The Steam Packet Company itself, founded in 1830, holds the distinction of being the world's oldest surviving sea transport company still operating under its original name.

The .917 gold proof strikes of this series were produced in strictly limited numbers against the more common cupro-nickel issues.
