The Mona's Queen II was a steam packet vessel operated by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company, the oldest surviving sailing company in the world operating under continuous management. This crown was issued as part of the Isle of Man's prolific commemorative program under the Pobjoy Mint, which held the contract for Manx coinage during this period and produced an unusually high volume of collector-targeted issues throughout the late 1970s and 1980s.
The Steam Packet Company has held a near-monopoly on sea links to the island since 1830.
