Aanvullende informatie

The Isle of Man has issued Olympic commemoratives for nearly every Summer Games since the 1980s, operating under a commercial licensing arrangement that has made it one of the most prolific producers of such material. These are not Olympic Committee-sanctioned issues — the Isle of Man has no Olympic team of its own and competes under the British umbrella — but Pobjoy Mint, which has handled much of this production, secured independent rights to issue legal tender coinage themed to the Games.

The 2008 Beijing Games were notable for introducing canoe slalom as a permanent fixture after its rocky history — the event debuted in Munich 1972, then vanished for twenty years before returning at Barcelona 1992.
