| Beschrijving keerzijde | The central device depicts the elaborately decorated Montgolfier hot-air balloon of 1783, richly ornamented with painted panels, garlands, an eagle motif, and a royal sunburst medallion on its envelope, shown tethered by ropes to a raised launching platform flanked by rows of trees and mast poles, faithfully recreating the historic scene at Versailles. Below the balloon gondola, the inscription MONTGOLFIER BALLOON appears above the commemorative date 1783, with the denomination ONE CROWN arcing beneath. The upper legend BICENTENARY OF MANNED FLIGHT curves around the top of the inner field, while the Isle of Man triskelion shield appears at the apex. The entire design is enclosed within a finely braided rope border, lending an elegant period character to the composition. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The 1983 Montgolfier commemorative marks the bicentennial of the first untethered human balloon flight, which Joseph-Michel and Jacques-Étienne Montgolfier achieved over Paris on November 21, 1783. The Isle of Man Treasury issued this crown across multiple metals simultaneously — gold, silver, and platinum — making the platinum variant the rarest of the set by a considerable margin, with mintages in this composition rarely exceeding a few dozen pieces.
At 52 grams of .950 platinum, the production cost alone far exceeded face value at the time of issue.
