Gibraltar's early 1990s commemorative program was prolific to the point of fatigue — the territory issued dozens of silver proofs targeting collector markets rather than circulation, with sports themes tied to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics serving as a reliable commercial hook. KM#72a is a product of that strategy.
