| 正面描述 | Right-facing draped bust of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem, as engraved by Raphael David Maklouf. The effigy is rendered in high relief with fine detail in the hair and regal attire. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, while ISLE OF MAN and the date 1997 arc along the right, separated by a raised dot. The designer's initials RDM and the Pobjoy Mint mark PM appear in small characters near the base of the effigy. |

The Isle of Man's annual cat crown series, launched in 1981, became one of the more commercially successful bullion-and-collector programs of the late twentieth century, with the Treasury varying breeds each year to sustain collector demand. By 1997 the series had accumulated enough of a following that multiple compositional variants — base metal, silver, and gold — were struck for each annual type, targeting different market tiers simultaneously. The Long-haired Smoke was among the less commonly encountered breed selections, and the .9999 fine gold strikes were produced in strictly limited quantities against the backdrop of spot gold sitting near multi-decade lows.
