Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara and draped neckline, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs across the upper left field and 'ISLE OF MAN' continues around the upper right, with the date '2008' positioned at lower right. A toothed border encircles the design. The initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the bust, denoting the engraver.

Aanvullende informatie

The Isle of Man Treasury has issued licensed character crowns with unusual consistency since the 1970s, leaning heavily on British cultural properties at a time when most commonwealth mints avoided such commercial tie-ins. Raymond Briggs published the original picture book in 1978, and the 1982 animated film adaptation — with its Howard Blake score and Aled Jones vocal — cemented it as a perennial British Christmas fixture. The colourised variant was produced for the collector market rather than circulation, as the electrostatic printing process used on these pieces cannot survive ordinary handling.
