Issued the year after the 35th anniversary of the Falklands War, this coin belongs to a long series of commemorative crowns produced by the Falkland Islands Government through the Pobjoy Mint. The islands have leveraged their mint relationship aggressively since the 1970s, producing collector-oriented silver issues far in excess of what local circulation could ever absorb.
KM#189a distinguishes the silver version from a base-metal companion strike — a common production split for this series, where the .925 silver piece targets the overseas collector market almost exclusively.
