The Hawker Sea Fury holds a specific claim to fame that justifies its continued appearance on commemorative issues: on August 9, 1952, Royal Navy Reserve pilot Peter Carmichael, flying a Sea Fury from HMS Ocean during the Korean War, shot down a Soviet-built MiG-15 jet — one of the very few confirmed kills of a jet aircraft by a propeller-driven plane in combat.
