Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory so remote that its entire population was evacuated to England in 1961 following a volcanic eruption, issues commemorative coinage through the Pobjoy Mint under license — coins that circulate in name only on an island with fewer than 300 residents and no airport. The Hurricane commemorated here helped win the Battle of Britain in 1940, accounting for more Luftwaffe kills during that campaign than all other Allied defenses combined.
