The Isle of Man Postal Authority issued a string of silver proof crowns throughout the early 1980s targeting the collector market directly — the Bounty theme arrived on the bicentennial of the 1789 mutiny. That event took place in April of that year in the waters near Tonga, when Fletcher Christian led a takeover of the vessel and set William Bligh adrift with 18 loyalists in a 23-foot open launch. Bligh navigated roughly 3,600 miles to Timor without a chart.
The Isle of Man had no particular connection to the Bounty or its crew.
