Issued to coincide with the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, this is one of several metal variants the Isle of Man Treasury produced for the same design — a strategy the island's authorities had refined through the early 1980s into a reliable revenue stream from coin collectors worldwide. The gold version commands a meaningful premium over its silver and copper-nickel counterparts simply by virtue of metal content, with collector demand rather than circulation driving the entire economics of the issue.
