Reverse description Central design featuring a detailed depiction of the White Tower of the Tower of London, with its characteristic corner turrets rising prominently in the background. In the foreground, four Yeomen Warders (Beefeaters) in full ceremonial Tudor dress stand at attention, holding halberds, flanking the entrance to the fortress. Two dogs are depicted at ground level between the figures. The curved legend '400th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GUNPOWDER PLOT' arcs across the upper field, while the denomination '1 CROWN' appears in the lower exergue. The Pobjoy Mint mark 'PM' is visible in the lower left field.

Additional information

The Isle of Man has long used its crown series as a vehicle for British commemorative themes, and the 2005 Gunpowder Plot issue marked the 400th anniversary of Robert Catesby's failed Catholic conspiracy to destroy the House of Lords on 5 November 1605. Guy Fawkes, arrested in the undercroft of the Palace of Westminster, was tortured in the Tower of London before his execution — the Tower connection giving this piece its specific subtitle.

The Pobjoy Mint struck the bulk of the Isle of Man's commemorative crown program during this period under contract.
