Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of Fridtjof Nansen's receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded in 1922 for his work coordinating relief efforts for famine victims in Soviet Russia and organizing the repatriation of hundreds of thousands of World War I prisoners of war. The "Nansen passport," the internationally recognized identity document he championed for stateless refugees, was by then already in use across Europe.
The Isle of Man's crown series has long used commemorative subjects with no direct connection to the island — Nansen among them.
