| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central depiction of a rampant Unicorn, the heraldic beast traditionally associated with Scotland and symbolic of extreme courage and virtue, rendered in fine relief against the field. The design commemorates the 60th anniversary of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, referencing the royal heraldic tradition. The legend 'CORONATION ANNIVERSARY 1953 2013' arcs around the upper portion of the coin, with the denomination 'ONE CROWN' inscribed in the lower field. The composition draws upon the Queen's Beasts iconographic tradition. |

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population of roughly 250 people, has no functioning coin economy — its issues are produced entirely for the collector market by the Pobjoy Mint under license. The "Four Heraldic Beasts" series drew from the Queen's Beasts sequence associated with Elizabeth II's 1953 coronation, a set of ten heraldic supporters originally rendered as plaster statues lining the entrance to Westminster Abbey for that ceremony.
The unicorn depicted here is specifically the Unicorn of Scotland, one of the ten supporters from that coronation display.
