Beschrijving keerzijde Astronaut Neil Armstrong is depicted descending the ladder of the Lunar Module Eagle onto the lunar surface, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the first crewed Moon landing of 21 July 1969. The full-suited figure is shown against a stylised lunar landscape, capturing the historic moment of humanity's first steps on an extraterrestrial body. The upper field carries the commemorative legend noting the 25th anniversary, while the lower field bears the denomination 1 CROWN. A paraphrased rendition of Armstrong's celebrated words appears as part of the commemorative inscription encircling the central design.

Aanvullende informatie

Gibraltar's coin-issuing program in the 1990s leaned heavily on commemorative themes far outside the territory's own history, and this 1994 piece marks the 25th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing. The Pobjoy Mint struck numerous similar anniversary crowns for various British Overseas Territories during this period, making Gibraltar's version one of several near-identical issues competing in the same collector market.

Armstrong's "one small step" transmission reached Earth with a 1.3-second delay — the time required for the signal to travel from the lunar surface.
