Pobjoy Mint, operating as a private contractor rather than a state institution, produced this piece for the Isle of Man — an issuer with one of the most aggressive commemorative programs of any jurisdiction its size, particularly around Olympic cycles. The 2014 Sochi Winter Games prompted a full figure skating series, of which this is the colourised variant, distinguished in the KM reference as 1547.2a against the non-colourised 1547.2.
The applied colour process on silver proofs of this period was notoriously uneven across the industry, with adhesion longevity a known concern on pieces stored without capsules.
