The Isle of Man has long operated as a prolific commemorative issuer, and this 2000 crown marks the eleventh anniversary of the Wall's fall — an oddly specific interval that reflects the island's practice of revisiting popular commemorative themes rather than strict anniversary logic. The Berlin Wall came down on the night of November 9, 1989, following an East German government press conference blunder in which spokesman Günter Schabowski announced immediate border openings without realizing he was doing so live on television.
