Additional information

The Isle of Man has long operated as an aggressive commemorative issuer, and this 2009 crown falls squarely within that commercial tradition. The Pobjoy Mint, which has handled Isle of Man coinage since 1973, produced silver proof versions of this type for the collector market rather than circulation. The underlying event — the November 1989 opening of the Berlin Wall — is well documented, but the Isle of Man's connection to it is purely entrepreneurial.

Twenty years on from the wall's fall, 2009 saw a wave of commemorative issues across multiple jurisdictions. KM#1373a designates the silver proof variant specifically.
