| Additional information |
The 1996 UEFA European Championship was hosted entirely in England — the first major international tournament held there since the 1966 World Cup. The Holland vs. Switzerland group stage match, which ended 0–0, was played at Villa Park, Birmingham on June 13th. An unremarkable fixture by most accounts, though the Dutch side had been heavily favored.
The Isle of Man issued an extensive series of crowns covering individual matches of the tournament, making KM#653 one of dozens in the set.
