| Obverse description | Right-facing uncrowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the George IV State Diadem, rendered in high relief with draped shoulders. The legend ELIZABETH II ISLE OF MAN arcs around the upper periphery, with the date 1996 and mint mark PM positioned at the lower field. The portrait follows the Raphael Maklouf third-generation effigy used on Isle of Man coinage during this period. |

Issued by the Pobjoy Mint for the UEFA Euro 1996 tournament hosted in England — the first major international football competition held on English soil since the 1966 World Cup. The England–Scotland fixture that inspired this piece was played at Wembley on 15 June 1996, a match Scotland needed to win to keep their qualification hopes alive. Paul Gascoigne's celebrated goal, followed by his iconic dentist's chair celebration, settled it 2–0 and eliminated Scotland from the group stage.
