Additional information

Issued by the Pobjoy Mint for the UEFA Euro 1996 tournament hosted in England — the first major international football competition held on English soil since the 1966 World Cup. The England–Scotland fixture that inspired this piece was played at Wembley on 15 June 1996, a match Scotland needed to win to keep their qualification hopes alive. Paul Gascoigne's celebrated goal, followed by his iconic dentist's chair celebration, settled it 2–0 and eliminated Scotland from the group stage.
