Denmark's inclusion in Euro 92 — the tournament this series commemorates in anticipation of Euro 96 — came only because Yugoslavia was expelled following UN sanctions over the Balkan wars. Called back from their summer holidays, the Danes went on to win the tournament outright, defeating Germany in the final. It remains one of the most improbable championship runs in European football history.
The Isle of Man Treasury issued prolifically throughout the 1990s, producing themed crown series for nearly every major sporting event. Collector demand was the explicit commercial driver; circulation was never the point.
