Gibraltar's commemorative crown program has long targeted the British collector market with anniversary issues, and this 2008 piece marks the 90th anniversary of the November 1918 Armistice. The poppy association with WWI remembrance derives directly from John McCrae's 1915 poem "In Flanders Fields," which fixed the image in Allied public consciousness within months of its publication in Punch magazine.
