| Additional information |
Issued to mark the sixtieth anniversary of VE Day, this crown falls within a long Isle of Man commemorative program that has produced silver crowns on virtually every major Allied anniversary since the 1990s. The island's wartime experience was sharply ambivalent: it housed several internment camps, most notably at Onchan and Ramsey, where thousands of enemy aliens — many of them Jewish refugees who had fled Nazi Germany — were detained under the wartime Defence Regulations. That irony has never been fully reconciled in official commemorative messaging.
