Additional information

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award was founded in 1956 by Prince Philip, drawing on the earlier Gordonstoun school program that had shaped his own education under Kurt Hahn. By 1981, the scheme had expanded to over 40 countries. The Isle of Man has a long history of issuing commemorative crowns tied to British royal and institutional occasions — this silver version, struck in .925, was produced alongside a base-metal issue, a common Pobjoy Mint practice for Manx commemoratives of the period.
