The 1992 date ties this piece directly to the quincentenary of Columbus's 1492 landfall, which generated an extraordinary volume of commemorative issues from mints worldwide — Pobjoy alone produced multiple variants for several issuing territories. The Pobjoy Mint, operating out of Sutton in Surrey, held long-standing franchise arrangements with numerous smaller British dependencies, which accounts for the otherwise curious pairing of a Caribbean historical event with a crown-sized coin bearing Elizabeth II's effigy.
KM#313a distinguishes the silver proof from the cupro-nickel business strike, the latter being far more commonly encountered.
