Issued to mark the 60th wedding anniversary of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who were married at Westminster Abbey on 20 November 1947 — one of the first major royal events broadcast on BBC television, though the cameras were barred from the Abbey itself and could only film the procession. The Isle of Man Treasury was a prolific producer of commemorative crown-sized pieces throughout Elizabeth's reign, frequently licensing royal occasions that the Royal Mint itself declined to mark with circulating coinage.
