Tristan da Cunha holds a peculiar constitutional position — a British Overseas Territory so remote that resupply ships call only a handful of times per year — and its issuing authority has long produced commemorative crowns that circulate nowhere on the island itself. This 2018 piece marks the 65th anniversary of the 1953 Coronation, issued in the same year the Queen became Britain's longest-reigning monarch by any modern measure.
The Ampulla and Anointing Spoon are among the oldest objects in the Coronation regalia; the spoon dates to the 12th century and is the only piece of the pre-Civil War Crown Jewels to survive the Interregnum intact, having been sold in 1649 and later returned at the Restoration.
