The Burmilla — a cross between a Burmese and a Chinchilla Persian — was created entirely by accident in Britain in 1981, when a Chinchilla stud cat belonging to Miranda von Kirchberg escaped and mated with her Burmese female. The Isle of Man's long-running cat crown series, launched in 1988, has become one of the more commercially deliberate coin programs in modern numismatics, targeting collectors of feline breeds rather than numismatists proper.
KM#1424 is one of dozens of varieties in the series; secondary market premiums depend almost entirely on breed popularity rather than numismatic scarcity.
