The Isle of Man's commemorative crown program under the Pobjoy Mint became one of the most prolific in the world during the 1980s and 1990s, issuing themed proof sets at a pace that drew both loyal collectors and considerable skepticism from the broader numismatic community. This 1997 religious issue was part of a wider series marking the approach of the year 2000, with several issuers racing to claim the millennial narrative years in advance.
