Pobjoy struck this piece for the Isle of Man in 1981, the 150th anniversary of Beethoven's death having passed in 1977 with little fanfare — this issue arrived four years late by any commemorative logic, which suggests the Beethoven theme was chosen more for international sales appeal than calendrical precision. The Isle of Man had no meaningful connection to the composer.
