| Obverse description | Right-facing truncated effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, as sculpted by Arnold Machin. The legend encircles the portrait along the rim, with the date appearing below the bust truncation. The design is rendered in high relief consistent with proof coinage standards. |

| Additional information |
Pobjoy struck this piece for the Isle of Man in 1981, the 150th anniversary of Beethoven's death having passed in 1977 with little fanfare — this issue arrived four years late by any commemorative logic, which suggests the Beethoven theme was chosen more for international sales appeal than calendrical precision. The Isle of Man had no meaningful connection to the composer.
The .375 fineness is the lowest gold standard recognized in British hallmarking, admitted under the 1975 Hallmarking Act.
