正面描述 Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem and drop earrings, with a pearl necklace visible at the truncation. The portrait, modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, shows the Queen in a mature, dignified rendering with finely detailed hair. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and GIBRALTAR along the right, with the date 2004 positioned at lower right. The engraver's initials RDM appear in small relief at the lower left of the bust truncation. The design is framed by a continuous inner border of fine beading.

背面描述 Central field features a detailed high-relief depiction of two armoured tanks engaged in combat, evoking the Eastern Front battle of Kursk of 1943, the largest tank battle in history. The vehicles are surrounded by scorched steppe vegetation, with smoke rising from one of the tanks, conveying the intensity of the engagement. A coloured red poppy, applied in enamel, is placed prominently in the lower centre of the field as a symbol of remembrance. The legend BATTLE OF KURSK arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination ONE CROWN is inscribed along the lower arc. The entire composition is set within a beaded inner border.

附加信息

Gibraltar's commemorative crown program of the early 2000s was prolific to the point of oversaturation, producing dozens of World War II themes annually for the collector market rather than any circulation purpose. The Battle of Kursk, fought in July 1943, was the largest tank engagement in history — the Soviet counteroffensive following the failed German Operation Citadel effectively ended any remaining German strategic initiative on the Eastern Front.
