Additional information

Tristan da Cunha, a British Overseas Territory in the South Atlantic with a permanent population under 300, issues commemorative crowns almost entirely for the collector market — they see no meaningful circulation on the island itself. This piece marks the 2018 Preakness Stakes, the second leg of American horse racing's Triple Crown, run annually at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore since 1873.

The Preakness has a shorter field than the Kentucky Derby by design; Pimlico's track configuration limits starting positions.
