Additional information

Issued to mark the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, this is one of several thematic crowns the Isle of Man Treasury produced throughout the 1990s under an aggressive commemorative program that made the island one of the most prolific small-territory issuers of the decade. Atlanta was the centennial Games, a fact heavily promoted at the time despite the IOC's decision to keep the event in the United States rather than return it to Athens, which caused considerable diplomatic friction with Greece.
